Thirteen Thoughts from the book "God is in the Small Stuff and it all matters"
1. God knows what's in our hearts. We might as well get to the point. 2. Remember that God values you for who you are, not what you do. 3. God will never send a thirsty soul to a dry well. 4. God won't take away a sin until you give it to Him. 5. Don't worry about proving God's existence, because no one can disprove it. 6. Religion is man's attempt to find God. The Gospel is God's plan to reach man. Don't let religion stand in the way of your salvation. 7. The times when you need God the most are the times you don't think you need him. 8. The way you think about God does not define him. 9. Faith is not an emotion. 10. You can't network, strong-arm or sweet-talk your way into heaven. Your faith is all that counts. 11. Thank God that your salvation does not depend on you. 12. God is more likely to speak to you with a gentle whisper than with a loud voice. 13. One can definitely believe in God without even knowing him.

It's nice to see your feelings about God posted so boldly for the world to see. I have a lot of respect for you. We may spend the rest of our lives trying to get to truly know God and Christ. It's a good thing number 13 is true. ;)

The Splintered Mind - Overcoming Neurological Disabilities With Lots Of Humor And Attitude
I agree wholeheartedly that one must walk the walk if they are going to talk the talk, if given time on earth enough to do so. However, I do believe that sometimes the only work necessary for faith is the act of confession and acceptance of God's gift. If anything else was truly mandatory, deathbed conversions would be pointless.
However, I also believe that I can do nothing to earn my salvation, as it is a free gift from God through the death of Christ. That is what I believe number 11 is saying. The only part of my salvation that is dependant on me is my willingness to accept the gift. Any works that come out of that are acts of love and service.

And on the Jeremiah passage, good question. I read it as a wisdom/guidance passage. In the midst of uncertainty, I take the passage to suggest that we need to stop, pause, listen, and look for the wise path, the tried-and-true ways that our faith forebears and that scripture have pointed out to us. The scary part, even in Jeremiah, the Lord says, "But you refuse to do this!" Human nature is so constant.
Blessings on your Friday!

I've never read the book, so can't really comment on it directly. Thanks for stopping in earlier :)
I feel the same way about love. It's not an emotion, it's a commitment. There are emotions that are associated with it, but they are neither faith nor love.
Thanks for your comment, and yes, I'm pretty sure Dr. Falwell was referring to slothful habits of some preachers he knew. I'm sure there are a few of them out there, but I've never met any of them! Most pastor's wives tell me their husbands are too busy!
I like your list of thirteen. Good stuff! I may have to pick up a copy of that book somewhere. Thank you for sharing!
It is an honor!
